10 Tips To Stay Focused in 2015Here we are in March 2015 already! If you've fallen off your path, here are 10 Tips to Stay Focused in 2015

March!! “So how did that happen? ” we are all asking…

Well, that's life!!

I have to say, for me, and probably for you, it has been an interesting year so far.

On the one hand we have Life… and on the other, our Business or means of financing our life.

And we all know that takes Balance… of work and play from a personal, family, health, spiritual and inspirational basis.

Already that could be feeling a huge burden of responsibility and a mammoth array of things to be achieved in our day to day life.

But… How Are You Doing So Far in 2015?

Just read this…

Life. How are YOU doing?

does it make you see Life Is Simple & Life Is Short?

… Read deeper than that… read the words

Life is about love, appreciation, deciding to enjoy what you do, embracing new situations and environments, exploring, taking opportunities, being free to live with passion and create and share your dreams.

I find this calming to read, like this is the essence of life… and although the reality will no doubt have some sad, frustrating, depressing and stressed times… it is good to have a baseline to return to.

Life is Short

If you are reading my blog, you will be a person who appreciates opportunity, and has a dream of a life of freedom to live as you choose.

I wasn't planning this story to be part of this post… but it is from examples like this, we learn the true value of Living Every Moment

Four weeks ago today I was driving up to the North of England with my parents. Ten days before that I had a call to tell me that one of my younger cousins was dead.

He was 38, a happy working man, just completed an Open University degree and in apparent good health.

He suffered a thrombosis in one of his heart arteries and just died in the night.

What devastation for the family, as always when we lose someone close to us…

Life is short… and can bring bitter blows

But life is short… even if you live to be 90, life is short.

So my message to YOU today is to Enjoy, Be grateful and Take Care of yourself and everything dear to you…. Alongside the business of Business, setting goals and making money.

Business vs Life

Remember you are a whole person, not just a learning junkie or a money making machine, or for that matter a punchbag (not literally!) and servant for other people and your family.

Stay focused in Life and Business

10 Tips To Stay Focused in 2015In order to smile, be happy and move with posture and conviction through the days you must aspire to some Balance.

Focus is Good… but tunnel vision is often destructive unless you live a totally isolated life

A Mission is positive...  as long as you have time to reflect and wind round the bends and over the hurdles without destroying relationships and inspiration.

My 10 Tips To Stay Focused for 2015

#1   Stop being busy, being busy! Get to grips with the many schedules you have going and gain some accountability from those tasks to you. Sort them and manage them so they work within your control and in your time. Don't let overwhelm grab you!

#2   Small daily improvements are the key to long-term results, be consistent and push the bar from your comfort zone when you've mastered a procedure/skill

#3   Remember, the quality of your life is determined by the quality of your thoughts, so be appreciative of who and what brings you pleasure in life and celebrate your successes

#4   Keep the promises that you make to yourself and to others, say what you will do and be true to your word.

#5   The tasks that frighten you, are the ones you want to put off… really try to identify these and when you have, take the plunge and do them… one at a time, before the ones you enjoy!

#6   Ask for help if you are struggling in any aspect of your business or life… we all have challenges we think are just ours… but no, they have been squashed before by someone so do seek help

#7   Small daily improvements are the key to long-term results, be consistent and push the bar from your comfort zone when you've mastered a procedure/skill. Never stop learning… there are lessons in life every day, and changing your thinking will move you forwards if you take action on those teachings. Work toward where you would like to be

#8   In a world where technology is overtaking our communication… spend time away from it and don't pick up your phone when you are with a real person… that is rude and dismissive and breaks any bonds. Be present.

#9   Touch someone's life positively every day. Make this a must, lift someone up, compliment, lend a hand, or just call to say ‘I love you”

#10   Be true to yourself. If you have a mission, and others are not altogether comfortable with you working on it, then Be Courageous in your heart, give it a place to flourish but be comfortable around your family/friends/work mates/sceptics. Keep Posture and work through the waves.

Take some time often to review your progress, and a 7 day plan is a great thing to have, especially in a busy, multi-faceted life! If you fall off the wagon… Reflect, tweek and get to action next week 😉

“A plan relieves you of the torment of choice” … Saul Bellow

If you are have been trying to develop new Habits or routines this year, for business, healthy eating, exercise and have been struggling with this, then take a look at my business partner Gavin Mountfords blog titled The 6 Step Habit Tracking (Goal Achievement) Process

Gavin is one of the most focused Business people I know… and I have really enjoyed the book he recommended here (and the Smart Phone App)

You will see in his follow-up post (What to do if you're a Quitter  how he reviewed his progress, tweeked the routine and got back to action to achieve his goal…

Apps like this can be a great tool to keep us on track!

  1. Hi Jacs,

A wonderful post. Life does have a way of throwing us some curves that make us think more about what is important.

I am sorry for your loss of your cousin. My brother in law died this week too and it does bring many thoughts, regrets and plans to live life to the fullest when something like this happens.

Great 10 steps that you have shared.

  2. Hi Jacs,
I appreciate this list, so much of it rings true. I like the quality of your thoughts can really have an affect on your life. Small daily changes generate massive changes over time… so much to think about and such value in this list .. thank you 🙂

    1. Thank you Lesly, it is true the quality of our thoughts is important as you say, but this can be a hard thing to first recognise, and then control when embarking on your own business… there is such a learning curve on the personal front as well that the mind can spin into all sorts of spirals… just like you said, small daily changes will over time generate massive changes, so some patience is needed!!!

    1. That’s a beautiful quote Erika… it is indeed the living we do within our years here on earth that bring us happiness and fulfilment!
Thank you for your thoughtful comment 🙂

  3. Hey Jacs,

I have to remind myself of these 10 tips constantly! Yes there are things in our lives that keep us from being connected from within, and when this constantly happens you developed those feelings of depression, stress, and anything that keeps you from progressing. So practicing these things, appreciate life and the people around us will keep us whole and moving forward. You’re right that life is too short, so take advantage of what we have now by starting off by living in the now!

Thanks for sharing Jacs! This post is a great reminder for all of us!

    1. Thanks Sherman, you are quite right about the obstacles we build up and we all have these times, but being aware of the practice of appreciation and changing our perspective really helps us get the best from life… right now!
Thank you for your insights 🙂

  4. Hi Jacs,

What a wonderful uplifting post especially near the end of the first quarter of the year. I did find myself not being myself and getting into that busy busy busy trap. I had to step back and give myself a good talking to, realizing that I wasn’t being flexible with my time.

Indeed, it is so important to have balance in our lives because life IS too short. I was doing so well with this last year, but since I’ve been snow-bound for the past several months, I was working too much.

It’s a good thing I stopped myself because I was headed for overwhelm. I’m just coming out of this “disaster zone” lol. I’m giving myself more time. I realized he world won’t end if my goals are not met on a timeline I put on myself.

I’m following your advice on #2 and that is one that is strong in my mindset.

Also I have been IChatting with my grandson three thousand miles away every day. That is one thing that lifts my spirits.

Thanks so much for addressing this issue, I needed to hear it again!

Donna Merrill recently posted..Why You Must Make “The Shift” In MarketingMy Profile

    1. Thank you for your wonderful comment, and so good you recognised the onset of overwhelm… it must be quite confining being snowbound for months, I’m sure I’d have cabin fever!

Once we head down a path, changing course is not always as easy as a sharp turn, and taking the step by step way is so admirable Donna… do enjoy a bit of comfort zone before pushing on to the next fence 😉

I love that you’re ichatting to your grandson…. I recognised that I was cutting myself off from people and needed to get back to more regular communication with friends…

it’s so easy to forget that balance and when there are family traumas to deal with, there is a tendency to focus on work to keep going and help deal with the shock, sadness and feelings of ‘why’…

but you must also take care of YOU Donna, so I would love you to do more of this in the next quarter of the year <3

    1. Do take care Miriam! We must assess and balance… it is too easy to get swamped in one aspect of life, and often that is Business…
I hope you set aside some time to review and feel refreshed from your new balance.
Thank you for your lovely comment, it is good to know we are all in the same boat 🙂

  5. Hocus Pocus Focus!
That is my mantra these days and it helps me to stay focused. It is a reminder to focus my energy on what it is I want and where I am going. With focus, I don’t always mean ‘force myself to stay focused on the task at hand’. For me focus means feeling my way to the things that I want to create. If relaxing and doing nothing is what I have to do, than I will do just that. Sometimes you need to do nothing in order to help the energies align.

So if I feel out of balance or overwhelmed, sometimes maybe frustrated or scared, that is my cue to say “Hocus, Pocus,Focus’ which will then help me to breath, relax and let go… Is maybe a little strange to use the word focus in that context, but anyway… that is what works for me!

    Thank you for the tips,

    1. Thanks so much Linda!

I love your Hocus Pocus Focus! and how you associate it with creation and allowing yourself the space to do that.

Focusing on giving yourself the freedom to relax sounds Perfect to me!

and I’m sure that boosts your energy and creative power… Brilliant 🙂

      warm wishes,

  6. It’s really important to keep all your various tasks in balance, Jacs.

I think it’s so important for entrepreneurs to stay focused and not get distracted and taken down the long winding road into overwhelm.

You’ve give some great tips for doing just that.

I especially like your suggestion to tackle the things you’re uncomfortable with on a regular basis. This is how you grow, and move forward. Avoiding those things bring your journey to success to a halt.

    1. You have summed things up nicely there David!

The speed of our journey can easily be hampered by overwhelm and distractions, and we must aim for a balance that allows us to stay creative… or we are doomed!

      warm wishes,

    1. Hi Joan! yes… always is a good time to be balancing what we do daily, and I think we all veer off our path at times, but if we have a baseline mapped out for our own personal place of balance, then we can steer ourselves back!
      warm wishes,

  7. Hi Jacs,

Thank you so much for this post and the reminder that life is too short! And that we should never take for granted what we have.

I do sometimes get frustrated with myself that I am not achieving those huge tasks, but I do have to keep reminding myself that it’s doing all the small tasks (and being grateful for accomplishing them) that will help achieve the completion of the big tasks.

Thanks again for this wonderful post!!!

    1. I appreciate your lovely comments Monisha 🙂
Things can be frustrating, and sometimes we may need to re-assess tasks or change tactics… it is something I think we have to listen to our instincts about because there is no point banging our heads on a wall if we are stuck!
You have the right idea, and celebrating small accomplishments leads to big achievements!
      warm wishes,

  8. Fabulous post. I love that you go deeper into the topic of focus and look at the underlying things that are so important. I love the manifesto :). Something that I’ve been learning more intensely this year is that small daily actions will get me to my end result. It’s about doing the things that are necessary every day and small steps are good. I tend to like big action and I’m kind of an “I want it all right now” type of person. Consistency with the small steps is a challenge for me (but there are certain things that require that :)). I’ve been a bit up and down with it, but I’m getting there :).

    1. Loving the ‘I want it now’ … I get that!!
When you create that vision or project in your mind, it can be deflating to have to go back and work out those steps to get there! But the more we practice, the easier it gets!
The small steps do get us there in time, and that speed obviously depends on what else we are juggling, but consistence wins out in the end.
      I think you’re doing great Leanne 🙂
      warm wishes,

  9. Great article fantastic points here. I really like the lifting up of people. It can be something so easy as smiling at the cashier or just passing by someone. I also like the comment on posture. Leaders know how to use posture to their advantage.

    1. Hi Lawrence, thank you for responding with the points you liked from my post 🙂
Lifting someone up always has the result of a shift in our mood too, like you say, just a smile can cheer someone’s day!warm wishes,

  10. My condolenses Jacs on the loss of your cousin. It’s times such as this that gives us pause. None of us will live forever though we do live like that is the case.
Lovely article from you. I was particularly touched by #9 and #10.
I do try and touch a person positively every day online or offline. “A compliment, lend a hand, or just call to say ‘I love you””.
And 10 “Be true to yourself.” ect Thanks so much for the encouragement!

    1. Such a lovely response Kathryn, thank you!
There is such a lot to balance between all our commitments, we just must remember to be ourselves, and be real… not attach big feelings to things that don’t matter, and act with kindness and respect to others. I think you do this 🙂
      warm wishes,

  11. I’m sorry about the loss of your cousin, Jacs. I’ve had too many reminders in my own family that our time can be cut short much earlier than we’d expect.

I really like the message in the poster! I like the whole thing, but especially the beginning… “This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often.”
Willena Flewelling recently posted..Week 22a – SilenceMy Profile

    1. I really agree Willlena about the poster of Life.. the message in there sums it all up, and I find when I read it at different times, different phrases resonate 🙂
Thank you for your kind words.

    1. I appreciate you comment Christine, and you are so right, just to have a reminder of the big picture of life, is something we all need from time to time 🙂
      warm wishes,

    1. Hi Pedro, thanks for visiting and sharing your thoughts, it is so true that we should share our problems, and interestingly, this is one thing I’m not so good at!! But help is there when you look, as you say… nothing is new 😉
      great to see you,
      warm wishes
      Jacs 🙂

  12. This is a great post, and one that I consider as getting real with youself and your life. Just reading your blog graphic in itself brings all the important things to the forefront. Life is short and we should put the being busy work aside and get down to the main theme of our lives. Giving and then receiving… whatever you are working on, or whoever you’re working with.
