There is a Posture to this process, which if you are a relaxed,
confident and communicative person will be part of your natural persona anyhow.
Network Marketing is no different to any other Business, in that you are wanting to
attract people to you, some of whom will like your services or products and wish to become a customer.
Now, the correct way to go about Marketing your Business is to be Marketing Yourself, with Attraction Marketing…
Leaving Your Footprint
It seems to me that on our journey through life, leaving a footprint is something many people would want to be doing in general as an individual.
It is a natural part of us growing up in our home, educational, social, work and leisure environments as we interact and communicate with people – I think we all like to leave our mark, whether it be as a leader or a team player or an individual within those places we frequent and the experiences we draw from them.
The footprints we leave behind us convey a message or memory to those following.
Now these footprints can be unconscious, especially if we are not aware of our own posture – but equally, we could be leaving a token of appreciation, interest, curiosity, help or connections for example, so those people in our wake have a choice to respond to our footprint.
You are creating the Attraction factor and this is the first stage of lead generation
Attraction Marketing is something to be embraced Offline and Online. You may have experienced feelings of pressure and even humiliation when following techniques
used by others, often with seemingly good results with regards to generating leads.
But I think it is up to us to choose how we place our footprints … however or wherever we place them, they are there, and will not get washed away by the tide.
I cringe at some memories!
And, each one must be left with a true sparkle of part of us. Consider this your mission and you will attract more people to you.
Creating your footprint to Generate leads Offline
When you are in Network Marketing or own a Business of your own, one very important aspect of your marketing is to leave a footprint everywhere you go (where appropriate), so that the next person who comes behind you knows that you were there.
It is possible to adapt these ideas to suit your business.
How do you do this? Here are some ideas:
- Business cards You should have a good stack of business card with you in your purse/wallet. I have heard of people leaving them inside books in bookstores,and on tables when leaving a restaurant… and there are many other places you can leave them for people to pickup,or pin to noticeboards in stores /schools / community centres if you are permitted to advertise. A Business card is a personal thing too, and you should feel attached to yours and the message it gives to people reading it. I think it is very effective to hand them to people personally, if you have engaged them in conversation and you feel they could benefit from your service or product in some way
Any time you are waiting in a service environment, and you have time on your hands… So does everyone else! Leave something for others behind you to read. If you are in a doctor’s office, or any other waiting room, this is an easy thing to do. It may be appropriate to ask permission, and if that is denied, well… nothing ventured, nothing gained! Try somewhere else!
- Flyers You need to have your eyes peeled for every opportunity. There are community boards that allow
flyers to be posted for businesses. If you walk past one, you’d better be leaving your flyer for the next person
who walks past the board to see
- Samples If you belong to a company that has any kind of samples, package them in a clear plastic bag with a label
that has your name and email /phone number. It is a nice gesture to leave samples with, for example receptionists,
garage / store assistants … in fact anyone you get to talk with during the course of your day.It is a nice way to say
thank you to someone who has helped you.You will probably make them smile and leave your footprint at the same time!
As you keep this footprint mindset, think of ways that you can leave behind SOME piece of your business EVERY time you leave the house
Please do remember, that my advice here is to do and say what comes naturally to you when talking to people – if you go out with a mission to improve their day with a smile, a chat and a footprint you will succeed.
If you go out to market your business you are not coming from an Attraction perspective and will probably feel uncomfortable and leave a Muddy Footprint!!
Look at creating your footprint in your local community, so people come to know you as a person first… then they will genuinely want to know what your business is.
How to leave your footprint and generate leads Online
I say, work out your personal footprint for Attraction… and go about your business with a positive Posture and a smile on your face. Be yourself – interact with your friends on social media networks and your personal profiles, people in your business field, and utilize your skills to help others when you can, and everywhere make friends…
Be a person before your Business… it is more rewarding for you too – and people will Sparkle in your Footsteps
The one mistake I made in the beginning, that first week I joined a network marketing company, was to lose my personality,and turn into a mouthpiece for my new business.
I knew no better, and was following blindly in a path that works for some, but was not in alignment with my nature and had the effect of me doubting myself, but continuing to plough on thinking it would all turn out right in the end when I cracked the code!
BUT… Online Is Fun!
Online networking is exactly the same as offline, except easier because you can reach so many more people… but just like in the real world, people will be attracted to you by Who You Are… so time to start making some footprints
ask yourself a few questions to focus your time and energies on the right areas for You.
- who do I know online?
- when I'm surfing online, where do I go
- what are my hobbies/interests
- what would I like to know more about
Notice, this is about you. Find some groups, pages, communities in the social media area of your choice, or forums – and interact there, join discussions, ask questions, answer questions… just be You – become a person people know and like and begin to trust because of your joint interests.
Where to leave your footprint and generate leads online
Then expand your reach of people by joining or visiting some business related places. If you have some business colleagues then ask for referrals for good interactive places… but use them so people get to know you, not to promote your business. You will stand out from the crowd this way.
Give To Others..
- Like, Comment, Share – photos, quotes, personal stories
- Be interested in what they are doing
- Ask questions
- Be consistent – little and often is a good way
- Be Yourself!

Remember…Every interaction is a footprint and many people will be seeing your name and comments, even if they don't comment too. Your aim is to attract people to you.
Don't choose too many – Look around for the right places for you – and Let people see you and get to know you – Show them you are around – Just keep leaving a trail
Don't visit anywhere without an interaction
